Man found dead after overnight shooting in Frayser neighborhood

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Detectives are investigating a shooting after a man was left for dead in the middle of Frayser neighborhood Tuesday morning.


Police said the shooting happened Tuesday around 3:30 a.m. on Winston Drive just north of Watkins. The shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene, they said in a tweet Tuesday morrning.

The sound of gunfire, followed by police sirens and a law enforcement helicopter is what those living near Winston Drive heard overnight during and after the violent attack. The assault left several neighbors concerned, but not surprised.

“It’s like living in a war zone, really it is because you hear it all the time. I’m a homeowner, so we just have to stick it out,” said one neighbor who has called the area home for nearly a decade.

It was minutes before 3:00 a.m. when her community suddenly became a crime scene.

“It’s so common, you don’t even take cover no more. I guess if you get hit, you get hit. It’s just so common around here,” she said.

Police said the known suspect fled on foot and has yet to be detained.
