MEMPHIS, Tenn. — There’s nothing quite like the look on the face of a kid or a kid at heart when they’re at the fair.
For almost 10 years now, people such as Brian Harris have been enjoying the Delta Fair and Music Festival at the Agricenter in East Memphis, especially on Labor Day.
“We always come to the Delta Fair, great event for your family, great food, great fun,” Harris said.
There’s no shortage of fun this year. Fair enthusiasts will discover a record 66 midway rides with all kinds of carousels and Ferris wheels. Visitors can also find fair food that will satisfy almost any appetite ranging from barbecue to foot-long Pronto Pups prepared by Brandon Howarth.
“We are just out here trying to cook some Pronto Pups and put them out,” Howarth said. “Not much to it besides that.”
For some parents and grandparents, it’s a picture-perfect day to capture photos of their children on fair rides for the first time.
While some also try to catch a cool breeze in front of fans to beat the heat, other fairgoers such as Tim Ammons said they prefer the crafts, culinary and collectibles inside the exhibit hall.
“They paint, they draw and make quilts and things. That’s always the best,” Ammons said.
There’s a lot of buzz, if you will, over Smitty Wiley’s use of the stroll saw.
“I like to demonstrate the art of sawing, and people can see what you can do when you buy a saw and cut things out of wood,” Wiley said.
As they say, there’s something for everybody at the 2015 edition of the Delta Fair and Music Festival, a place for kids of all ages.
The fair will continue through Sunday. WREG-TV is a proud co-sponsor.
