MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  It was a big day for dozens of high school graduating seniors heading to college.

46 students each received $1,000 scholarships at a breakfast this morning. The scholarships were provided by the Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

The Deltas spent all year raising money for the scholarships.

The organization raised $46,000 and awarded all funds to deserving high school graduates from the Memphis area.

The scholarships are named in honor of former educators who are members of the organization, Lois Jefferson Gilder and the deceased Maggie McDowell.

Awarding the scholarships is part of Delta’s core values of sisterhood, service and scholarship.
