Suspect in custody after chase, manhunt in Parkway Village

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man that led undercover deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle and prompted a manhunt in a Parkway Village neighborhood has been arrested, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday afternoon.

Heavily-armed deputies, police officers and members of the Multi-Agency Gang Unit combed Honeywood Avenue for more than an hour as a helicopter circled overhead.

“The cops came back and said, ‘Do we see somebody running?’ We said, ‘No,” said resident Linda Kaminski.

“Hopping here, driving there. They been everywhere,” Latavia Keaton said of law enforcement.

The sheriff’s office said things started around 2:15 p.m. near Winchester and Clearbrook when members of the gang unit tried to pull over 21-year-old Willie Love for a traffic violation.

Deputies say he led them on a brief chase before crashing a SUV, which turned out to be stolen, into a pole on Castleman Street.

He then ran to Honeywood Avenue before deputies located him around 4 p.m.

“That’s kind of weird, yeah. That’s senseless, just senseless,” said Kaminski.

Detectives have not been able to confirm if any shots were fired at deputies, but said no injuries were reported.

Love’s criminal history in Shelby County is brief. All he has is a 2018 arrest for unlawful possession of a weapon, according to court records.
