MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police found more than just marijuana in a pot bust on King James Cove this week.

Carlos Gray, 28, is facing multiple charges Thursday, including the manufacture, delivery and sale of a controlled substance and child abuse charges.

That’s because detectives found four young children in the same house where the drugs were found. They were between three months and eight-years-old.

Arrest documents showed detectives were watching for Gray as part of a narcotics investigation.

They spotted him pulling into his driveway on King James Cove Wednesday.

They said he let them in where they found a woman on the couch with the kids.

A drug dog hit on pot in several places, including in a kitchen cabinet. Some of it was individually wrapped bags.

Detectives said other marijuana was in plain sight on the counter, next to a scale.

No one answered the door at the home Thursday, but neighbors told WREG they were shocked to hear about the arrest.

“For that type of dealings to be going on with small kids around, as a matter of fact, for anyone to be around, I mean, I just hate to hear about something like that,” said neighbor Marilyn Geralds.

Living in an environment like that could put children in danger according to Dr. Kattrina Roach, the Clinical Director at Addiction Campuses.

“If you look at it from a medical standpoint, you know, any time you’re exposing young kids to secondhand or residual contact, certainly has problems with anything from their THC levels to just growth and development in that secondhand exposure,” Roach said.

Also, she said it sends a message to kids that drugs are okay.

Police said Gray owned up to dealing and allegedly told them he sells drugs while he looks for a job.

In total, police said they found 4.55 pounds of pot in the home. They found a gun too, which landed Gray with a possession of a firearm during commission/attempt to commit dangerous felony charge.
