SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A victim was gunned down Monday morning while sitting inside his vehicle in southeast Shelby County.

Deputies were called to the 7200 block of Easterly Lane near East Holmes around 3:30 a.m. Monday and pronounced 30-year-old Reginald Palmer, Jr. dead on the scene.

Late Monday evening, SCSO announced detectives have arrested Jeffery Boyle, 30, and charged him w/ Second degree murder, Attempted Second degree murder, Employing a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, Tampering with evidence, & Possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell/manufacture.

Neighbors told WREG’s Jerrita Patterson they heard about four shots. One neighbor named Shirley, who has lived in the area for 17 years, said what happened overnight was out of the ordinary.

“Quiet. Everybody is professional, that’s why I built over here,” said

Our crews were on the scene when they heard chatter over the scanners and several deputies drove away in a hurry. Sources told WREG that the suspect may be on foot and that’s possibly who they were looking for. The hunt for the gunman extended half-a-mile away where K-9 units were brought out to help track.

Shirley said knowing this happened so close to home is downright disturbing.

“We’ve never had anything like this before,” she said. “I have two policemen that live down the street.”

This was just the latest in a series of a dozen shootings since Friday that left six people dead and eight hurt since Friday.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, there have been five homicides in the county this year. Last year, the agency investigated 15 total homicides in unincorporated Shelby County.
