Digging into Shanynthia Gardner’s past

Shanynthia Gardner

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shanynthia Gardner’s husband told police last year she had been having problems at work.

WREG has confirmed she was an employee at ALSAC St. Jude, which is the fundraising arm for the Children’s Cancer Research Hospital.

She was reported missing in March of last year from a house on Birch-Vale Drive.

Her husband said she left out for a run around 9 p.m. and hadn’t been seen for hours.

He told police last year that she’d been “having problems at work….and had been feeling stressed.”

“She also has been feeling that someone is trying to harm her and her family,” he added.

At the same time, Garnder’s mother told investigators “this behavior is unlike her,” and that she “has not been diagnosed with a mental illness.”

WREG spoke to a woman who now lives at the home where the Gardner family use to live.

The homeowner hadn’t heard of the news before we came knocking at her door.

She remembered buying the house as the large family was preparing to move out.

“l could tell there was a lot of children that lived here. There are a lot of bunk beds and looked like a very busy household. You just – until you walk in somebody’s shoes, you just, you don’t know what’s going on. I’m sure one day, she’ll just. I mean — I don’t know. There’s got to be something seriously wrong to do that. I mean out of the blue to just do that to your children.”

The report obtained by WREG revealed that the day before she disappeared, Garnder left work early, picked up her kids, and drove all the way to Corinth, Mississippi.

That’s more than 95 miles away from Memphis.

What’s strange is that her husband told officers that she didn’t know anyone from Corinth.

Gardner was eventually found at the hospital later that night, but police didn’t say how she ended up there or why.
