LAKELAND, Tenn. — Drivers can expect traffic troubles on I-40, but this time in Lakeland.
TDOT is closing down the interstate at the Canada Road exit the next four nights, so they can widen the bridge.
Crews will work on the bridge from 8 at night until 6 in the morning.
TDOT will shut down the east bound lanes Monday and Tuesday, and the west bound lanes on Wednesday and Thursday.
Drivers will be rerouted off the interstate, cross the street and get back on.
“It is going to be difficult for me. I passed through twice a day: in the morning and at night,” said Sicarr Shaw.
He commutes from Jackson to Memphis for work and is planning on some quality time in his car.
“You just got to sit and wait,” said Shaw.
This is all part of a $28 million project that’s expected to wrap up in May 2017.
Crews will widen the bridge then Canada Road adding gutters and turning lanes.
TDOT said it will ease traffic and safety concerns to keep up with the businesses and homes popping up in the area.
Crews on the scene said while they’ll be out here longer, the interstate will actually shut down between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
