COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Some drivers feared a washed-out portion of the Bill Morris Parkway may be a safety hazard for drivers.

“It’s pretty rough there I guess,” Johnathan Ash told WREG.

Rough and scary were how some travelers described a crumbling section of Route 385 near Highway 72 in Collierville on Wednesday.

“What? What caused that?” Ash asked.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said it caught wind of the damage after the most recent storm.

However, a TDOT spokesperson believed the problem stemmed from a guardrail being hit and loosening the ground below.

“I’m wondering if the road may collapse,” Ash said. “I reckon hurt myself or somebody else.”

TDOT urged that drivers are not in danger and traffic should not be affected.

Road crews put down a broken stone foundation to keep things sturdy until the guardrail can be replaced.

Only the right shoulder/emergency lane is affected.
