SAN ANTONIO — As a Vietnam veteran approached the end of his life from a hospital bed, he had one wish: to see his beloved horses one last time.

Roberto Gonzales became paralyzed after being shot while fighting for our country in the Vietnam War in 1970, WOAI reported.

Yet he never let his paralysis get in the way of his love for horses; Gonzales was one of the only handicapped or paralyzed licensed horse trainers in Texas, his wife Rosario told the station.

“Horses are his life. We’ve been training and raising horses for over 30, 40 years,” Rosario Gonzales said.

Now Roberto Gonzales’ organs are failing, and he may not have much time left.

So, his horses Sugar and Ringo were brought to the hospital to fulfill his dying wish.

“When the horse came up to him he actually opened his eyes,” Rosario Gonzales said. “They came up to him and I think they were actually kissing him.”
