PORT WASHINGTON, New York — More Americans are eating meals at home instead of heading to a restaurant, but they’re not necessarily cooking.

A new study from the research firm NPD Group found Americans are making meals out of ready-to-eat snacks.

Analysts say it’s fast and convenient and also a good way to save money in a tough economy.

The most popular snacks include yogurt, cereal bars and fruit.
