A computer issue caused problems for EBT card users in several states Saturday, including Mississippi.

The system was finally restored around 9 p.m. Saturday night, but not before grocery stores across Mississippi had to turn thousands of customers away.

According to Julia Bryan, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Human Resources, the problems stemmed from a Xerox facility that handles EBT card services for Mississippi and 16 other states.

Superlo Foods in Southhaven posted signs on their entrance.

“They’re not very happy about it, but we have tried to make the best of it. It’s hurt our business as well,” said manager Jeff Churchwell.

Churchwell said the store turned more than 50 customers away and lost ten percent in sales.
