MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An EMT said his car carrying his uniform, medical equipment, wallet and a gun was stolen while he was asleep.

Devin Simpson had just got off a 101 hour shift and immediately passed out on his couch Thursday night.

At some point, he said a thief broke into his house, took his car keys and sped away.

“I am exhausted,” said Simpson. “That’s why everything was in my car. I was just too tired to bring it all in.”

Simpson’s car is a 2014 Chevy Impala.

“Woke up and my car was gone. Just gone. Everything I need is in my car. All of my uniforms, my badge, my boots, my deodorant. Everything I need for work is in that car,” he said.

Simpson had his wallet and a gun in his car too.

“I feel like a part of my life was taken away. I work for so little pay and work so many hours and that car was my everything,” he said.

Within hours, the thieves reportedly wiped out his bank account at Walmart and online.

“And then went to Taco Bell and spent $60,” he said.

All the while he sat at home waiting over an hour for police to show up and take a report.

Detectives called him first thing Friday morning though and spent the day collecting evidence.

They asked him to being a copy of his credit cars transaction to the Criminal Justice Center to help with the case.

“I feel like a part of my life was ripped away someone literally just came in my house and took it like it was nothing. Literally words can’t express it. I feel violated,” said Simpson.

The 2014 Chevy Impala has a white ‘Star of Life’ bumper sticker in the back window.
