MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Zimm, the monkey, missing since Thursday at the Memphis Zoo was captured Saturday morning.
Zimm got into a large underground tunnel used for storm water.
Staff had to go section by section looking in manholes and using cameras in their search for the missing monkey.
She was pulled from the pipe Saturday morning.
Director of Animal Programs Matt Thompson says, “the key strategy here was patience.”
“Zimm had a very big day yesterday, and she’s safe and secure now.”
“I’d like to thank our staff for their dedication and hard work, and the continued support we received from the community.”
Memphis Zoo officials say they will conduct a thorough investigation into how Zimm escaped.
Thompson also says Zimm is an extremely spirited, athletic animal, and this is a very rare occurrence.
Zimm is currently being examined by the Memphis Zoo veterinarian staff.
She will have a brief stay in the Zoo’s hospital, before being returned to Primate Canyon.
