MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The mother of slain 2-year-old Laylah Washington says her heart breaks for Robin Keefer, the child killed in Friday morning’s shooting.
She says she just saw 1-year-old Robin Keefer last week.
“Robin was just over here four or five days ago. She is my niece’s sister,” Laylah’s mother, Leslie Washington, said.
It was a fatal coincidence.
Robin died after she was critically injured in a shooting at an apartment complex on South Mendenhall Road.
Laylah was killed last July after four men followed them from a grocery store and shot at their car.
“It’s happening every day. It’s not just my baby, this could be someone else’s baby,” Washington said.

Washington says she is frustrated with the lack of results from her child’s murder investigation.
The circumstances of Robin’s death cut too close to home.
“They told me she was shot, it really rehashed what I saw with my daughter,” Washington said.
“I don’t think the detectives are doing all that they can do,” added Washington.
Exhausted with constantly calling for updates to no avail now she has a message for Laylah’s killer.
“I want the person who did it come forward someone knows something just give them up,” said Washington.
And as for those who know something but refuse to break their silence she says come forward even if it’s just for the cash reward.
“You’ll have $20,000 to give your kids the Christmas of a lifetime,” added Washington.

“It’s 5 billboards up, also they have a reward up for 20,000 still no one is coming forward with the information,” said Washington
Washington says in her household, there’s no cheer or holiday spirit as she waits to hear something about the night her daughter was taken from her.
“Thanksgiving is coming up and Christmas and I’m lost, I don’t know what to do,” added Washington.
The only Christmas gift that she wants is knowing Laylah’s killer has been caught.
“Come forward, give me some type of closure for my daughter,” said Washington.
