MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man is on a breathing machine and in critical condition at the Regional Medical Center after being shot over the weekend in the downtown area.
Joshua Walton was one of three people wounded.
A Memphis Police officer died.
Man charged with violence that left officer dead, 3 others injured appears in court
The community held a fundraiser for Walton in Cordova on Tuesday at the Fox and the Hound.
Walton, his wife, and their children were sitting outside Westy’s Saturday night when Justin Welch walked up cursing and angry.
“Before we knew it he pulled his gun and shot him,” said his wife Nova Walton. “And I told the kids to run.”
Now her biggest concern is how her family is going to get by.
“How am I going to pay for this? What am I going to do?” Walton said.
WREG was told Joshua Walton is the main provider for the family.
With him in the hospital, there’s no one to care for them.
That’s why their friends and family decided to hold the fundraiser.
They said for a family who gives so much, it’s time for the local community to step up and help them out.
“Everything that he does is just for everyone else. We just can’t understand why something so horrible would happen to them,” said one friend.
