MEMPHIS, Tenn. — They laid candles atop blood stains where Johnathan Bratcher’s body sat for hours.
There was anger, prayer and tears.
“He was a good man, great father, a loving man.”
Ashley Newsom is the mother of Bratcher’s 7-year-old son, Johnathan Junior.
“I just want the truth, no matter what the truth is. I just want the truth.”
Family and friends wanted to know if police found a gun after they shot and killed the man.
“If he shot at somebody where is the gun powder, where are the shells?”
Investigators with the TBI have not said if they found a weapon, but did say Bratcher fired at police.
Video of officers performing CPR on Bratcher showed something lying on the ground next to him.
At one point the officer pushes it away from him.
“It looked like a bulge to me,” said one person.
“We believe it was him shooting at police and police shooting back at him.”
Either way investigators won’t answer those question now, and that’s when has this community torn.
There was clearly love and support for Bratcher.
They said if he did fire a gun at Police Officers they would like to see proof.
“Running is not a crime, it’s not a crime to run, you’re not supposed to get shot in the head for running.”
“Shoot him in the leg or something to make him fall,” he added.
