(Memphis) Investigators with the Memphis Fire Department are working to determine the cause of a massive fire that destroyed an East Memphis home late Wednesday.
The fire broke out around 10:50 p.m. in the 6700 block of Poplar Pike near Kirby Parkway. Nine people were in the house — three adults and six children. They were all able to get out safely.
Firefighters say the fire quickly spread throughout the first and second floors of the house — then moved into the attic.
Firefighters initially battled the blaze from the inside. They had to pull out after a section of the roof collapsed.
One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment and is expected to be OK.
