MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Among the police cars and crime tape was a family in pain Sunday.

Family members screamed from Long Shadow Lane as they heard the terrible news that off-duty Memphis Police Officer Terence Olridge had been shot and killed.

“They sad, real sad,” Olridge’s uncle Jerry Kelly said. “It’s a very sad situation. Crying, everybody’s crying.”

Some loved ones could barely stand up, and others tried their best to be strong.

“We just got a call. Told us that he’s been shot,” Kelly said. “Terence was a good person.”

Kelly told WREG that Olridge was shot several times while in his police uniform by a neighbor outside as he was about to head to work.

“He made his way back to the door some kind of way,” Kelly said.

The officer reportedly banged on the garage door to ask his fiancée, who is four months pregnant, for help.

“He was a father-to-be, but it’s something now. Somebody took his life,” Kelly said.

Officers who worked alongside Olridge showed up at the hospital standing shoulder to shoulder with family as they tried to remember the good times.

“Yeah. I’m pretty sure he enjoyed his job,” Kelly said. “Yeah. He was a good guy.”

Police have not charged anyone and are releasing few details.

The family has not started discussing possible funeral arrangements yet.
