(Memphis) Police are on the hunt for whomever gunned down a South Memphis father of five on his way to work.
This happened Wednesday morning around 5 a.m. in the 1400 block of Gausco.
Police hope a white truck with a shot out driver’s window will lead them to the man who gunned down a father of five.
“I can’t believe nobody would shoot him because he would give you whatever you needed, as long as you brought it right back,” said next door neighbor, Ken Small.
Ken Small has lived next to George Hooks’ family on Gausco Avenue for five years.
Early Wednesday morning, a neighbor called after hearing a few gun shots.
They thought someone was trying to break into Hooks` truck.
When Small got outside he saw his friend lying face down on the ground, bleeding, the shooter already gone, “I went over to shake him, I started calling his name. I was getting nervous. I saw blood coming out, I panicked, I didn’t know what to do.”
Small called 911, another neighbor checked Hooks` pulse, “I was going to give him CPR but he was already gone. His body was warm around his waist but his chest was cold.”
Small says his neighbor kept to a strict routine, including how he got into his truck, “Usually when he leaves he blows his horn. I flash my light to let him know I got his back.”
Small says this is another murder that shows crime knows no boundaries and prays police catch whoever killed his friend, “If it happened on this quiet little street right here, it could happen anywhere.”
Police have not released any suspect information.
