(Memphis) Trence Pollard, Sr., said he found out by Facebook that his 19-year-old son Trence Pollard, Jr., was killed Monday night.
“You should never have to find out the way I found out about my child being murdered,” said Pollard.
According to court affidavits, Pollard, Jr., was found dead in a Frayser apartment after being shot in the head.
Those documents claim Devonta Hollins, who has been charged with reckless homicide in the case, told police that Pollard Junior was playing with the gun when he accidentally shot himself.
MPD said they later found that to not be true.
Court documents said after giving a false statement, Hollins admitted to playing with the gun and shooting Pollard, Jr.
“If it was an accident, he wouldn’t have tried to cover it up. To me, it was murder. Anytime another man puts a gun to another person’s head, that’s murder,” said Pollard.
“I thought they were best of friends. They’ve known each other since middle school. He was at my house that Saturday, he had spent the night when they were younger,” said Pollard about his son’s relationship with Hollins.
Hollins is out of jail on a $15,000 bond. He is due in court later this month.
“If I know I can kill you today and back out on the street tomorrow, should I even care if I pull that trigger?” said Pollard, who says he is determined to find the truth about what happened to his son.
