MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis father is pounding the pavement trying to crack his son’s murder case himself. He does not believe police are doing enough.

Reginald Johnson said he has spent the past several months walking around downtown showing pictures of a car he believes carried the suspect who killed his son.

WREG has introduced viewers to Johnson before, mourning the loss of his 21-year-old son Samuel.

He said Samuel was found in the middle of the street near Johnson’s home on Halloween shortly after leaving for the gym.

Johnson’s son had actually been shot earlier in October, which police believe was the work of rival gangs.

While there have been arrests in that case, Johnson said police have found the car from Halloween.

He said police have been less responsive.

“I’ve been asked not to keep showing this picture, because it may be endangering my life, you know, but really at this point now, I just don’t care, because I’m going to do whatever I can to get this case solved,” Johnson said.

Johnson said recently police were able to find the alleged killers of a woman in Cordova based on a car in surveillance video. He does not know if his son’s case is different.

So, he said he is going to keep asking.

“I think that’s wonderful. I would do the same thing,” one woman said after reviewing the photographs.

“I’m not getting any help from anybody else, so I got to do it myself,” Johnson said. “So, I’m trying to do the best I can.”

WREG asked MPD for the latest information in this case, but we have not heard back.
