MEMPHIS, Tenn. — First responders searched the Mississippi River for several hours Saturday morning after receiving reports that a man jumped into the water during a concert.
The Memphis Police Department has identified the man as 19-year-old Pace Taylor. Taylor was last seen wearing a tie-dyed T-shirt with brown shorts.
According to the Memphis Police Department, a man was seen jumping over a wall of the Mud Island Amphitheater at the Widespread Panic concert on Friday night.
That’s when Police say he landed on the riverbank and slipped into the water.
He was last seen drifting away from Mud Island.
The Memphis Fire Department said they received the call just before 11:30 p.m. They launched two boats into the river and searched for hours, but they were not able to locate anyone.
Out of Tallahassee Florida, his loved ones say they are at a loss for words after hearing about what happened several hours away.
A family friend took to Instagram to share a message.
but those thoughts going beyond his loved ones.
Perry Partain who attended the concert last night saw dozens of firemen responding and sent WREG an email.
“I can’t imagine what he was thinking at the time. I pray he’s somewhere safe today but if not I hope he’s at a bar called heaven. My thoughts are with his friends and family,” Partain said.
The fire department suspended their operation just after 1:30 a.m.
Officers and Harbor Patrol are still looking for him. Crews have had to suspend their search due to the lightning but returned to the water Saturday evening.
On Sunday, Memphis Police canceled the City Watch alert saying Taylor has been located.
