CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Police in Crockett County are trying to determine who broke into an animal shelter and stole five puppies.

Workers at the animal shelter told investigators the pups were accounted for Monday when they closed for the night, but come Tuesday morning they were nowhere to be found, reported WBBJ.

Three of the dogs were scheduled to be picked up by the Companion Pet Rescue and Transport Wednesday and taken to their new homes in New England.

The other two had just recently been rescued from a kill center.

Managers at the Animal Shelter said they would be installing news locks on all of the doors and setting up gates to keep this from happening again.

A reward is being offered for the return of the puppies.
