LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has signed a proclamation ordering flags across the state to fly at half staff in honor of the late Dale Bumpers.
Bumpers died January 1, 2016 in Little Rock.
Born in Charleston, Arkansas, he was elected to lead the state as Governor in the early 1970’s, then made the jump to the Senate where he served for 24 years.
He served as a member on the Committee on Small Business, the Senate Appropriations Committee, and the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Bumpers was also known for his efforts to expand the National Park System and conservation efforts.
It’s in his honor that Governor Hutchinson ordered the flags to be lowered starting Tuesday, January 5 until January 10 at sunset.
