(Memphis) The woman who jumped off an overpass to escape an out-of-control car is recovering in ICU at the MED.
A friend of Pamela Davis gave us an update and talked to WREG’s Sabrina Hall about what she was thinking Saturday when she jumped.
Pamela’s arm is broken and her back is in need of surgery.
“She is very fortunate to be alive,” said Debbie Demirorz.
Debbie Demirorz has been by her side since Pamela fell more than 20 feet from an overpass.
Pamela jumped with two other women when icy conditions on Walnut Grove caused a car to slide in their direction.
“Their initial thoughts were ‘yeah, we’ll jump’ but when they jumped they thought they were going to be landing on a flat surface, the same height they had just come from.”
Debbie says Pam had no idea when she jumped that she was on an overpass that would send her plummeting to the ground below.
“All of a sudden, it was a constant, where she continued to keep going.”
When Pam landed, Debbie says Pam’s first instinct was to use her cell phone to call a friend who’s a doctor.
“She heard people from up above saying ‘Don’t worry. We are getting in touch with someone to come and help.’”
Pam hasn’t gotten any updates on the other two women.
The two women stopped on the Humphrey’s overpass to help Pam when she got into an accident.
Now all three of them are recovering.
“She has a son that she is going to be fighting for because that little boy means so much to her,” said Debbie about Pam’s 14-year-old son.
Debbie says a host of friends will be at her side.
Pamela’s surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.
