Florida parent upset about daughter’s dress-code violation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida 13-year-old was punished after she came to school wearing a dress that went a good bit past her fingertips but didn’t quite reach her knees, WJAX reported.

Gabrielle Garcia was wearing leggings under the babydoll dress, so her knees were still covered.

A staff flagged her for violating the dress code shortly after she arrived at school.

Gabrielle’s mom, Misty Garcia, ended up picking her daughter up from school so she wouldn’t also get a tardy referral, as she didn’t have enough time to bring a new outfit in time for Gabrielle to make it to class by the first bell.

Misty Garcia said she felt her daughter was dressed appropriately.

“Honestly, if I would send her to church in something like this, I feel like she can wear it to school,” she told WJAX.

She said two other teachers thought the outfit was fine, and even the principal said it was acceptable under the school’s dress-code policy.

The school district later determined it was a misunderstanding and said the issue has since been resolved.
