MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In the middle of a broken concrete sidewalk, roses and a stuff animal sit as part of a memorial for fallen Officer Sean Bolton.

Elena McDonald and her children weren’t home when the veteran was gunned down in their driveway on Summerlane Avenue.

They said when they did come home, they were welcomed with chaos.

“There were many cops in the area. All the streets were closed,” she said. “We didn’t know what happened at first.”

Neighbors told police they heard several gun shots before one person ran to Bolton’s radio to alert police he had been shot and the gunman was on the run.

A bullet hole was left on the family’s mailbox reminding the entire neighborhood what happened on that fatal night.

“They patrol the streets. They are supposed to be here to serve and protect us,” Melvin Norment said. “That don’t make any sense.”

He said he was saddened the officer’s murder happened at all but especially shaken it happened on his street.

“It makes me a little scared for my family and life,” he said.
