Former Collierville teacher sentenced to 21 years for trying to kill wife

Michael Halliburton

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A former Collierville High School teacher has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for attempting to kill his wife, said Shelby County District Attorney spokesman Larry Buser.

Michael Halliburton was arrested in 2012 after police said he beat his wife with a knife sharpener, leaving her in serious condition. The wife told police the two were arguing about a pending divorce when the attack occurred. The couple’s daughter was also present at the time.

Judge Bobby Carter denied Halliburton the motion for a new trial, Buser said.
