CORINTH, Miss.— The former chief of a northeast Mississippi fire department is pleading guilty to embezzlement and will repay more than $100,000.

The Daily Corinthian reports 48-year-old David Anderson Boren made the plea Thursday before Alcorn County Circuit Judge Jim Pounds.

Boren is scheduled to repay more than $103,000 to the department, starting with an initial $50,000 and followed by monthly payments of nearly $900. He also must serve five years of probation. If Boren completes his sentence successfully, the felony charge won’t be entered on his record.

Boren was chief of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department when indicted in April 2017 on charges of insurance fraud and embezzlement. The insurance fraud charge is being dropped in the plea deal.

The indictment said Boren took the money from 2010 through 2016.
