MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former Memphis police officer has been indicted on aggravated rape charges from an attack 14 years ago on a woman.
Bridges Randle, 40, was a police officer at the time but has been working as Operational Director of Healthy Lifestyles for Boys and Girls Clubs of Atlanta.
Bridges has been going by the name Ajamu Abiola Banjoko.
The victim was a 23-year-old woman who said two police officers came to her apartment on June 24, 2000.
The officers were responding to a disturbance involving the woman’s boyfriend.
“After the officers left, another man she believed to be a police officer came to her apartment near Knight Arnold and Mendenhall and asked more questions about her vehicle.”
The victim said the man pulled a gun, forced her into a bedroom and raped her.
According to prosecutors, “DNA evidence was collected and last August the DNA profile of an unknown male was uploaded into the CODIS database. The results and further tests later identified Randle as the suspect.”
Randle is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond.
Prosecutors say Randle was a Memphis police officer from February of 1998 to December of 2001.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Criminal Court on Friday.
