Memphis, Tenn. — A former night club manager is being accused of writing some big checks and taking them straight to his bank account.
Police say it went on for about a year from 2014 to 2015.
The music won’t stop for Club 152 on Beale, but for Justin Hamlett the music has faded. He now sits behind bars, accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the club.
“That’s a lot of money,” said Shawna Barlow.
Hamlett was once the manager of the club. Now, he’s facing charges for allegedly making out checks to fictional DJs, artists and vendors and even acting like he was paying employees.
“It’s smart in a way, but then again it didn’t work out for him,” said Hunter Slane.
According to the affidavit, Hamlett carried out the scheme more than 200 times before he was caught.
“That’s a lot, a manager that is not good,” said Bernd Renderman.
Beale Street patrons say if he did the crime, then he should face consequences.
“From top to bottom, everyone needs to be held accountable,” said Ahmad Galloway.
Hamlett’s bail is set at $75,000. He’s facing two theft of property charges.
