OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — We’re learning more about a scandal happening in Olive Branch. Sources tell WREG eight people with the city have now resigned amid a sexual misconduct investigation.
We’re told they’re employees with the Olive Branch Police Department and fire department, yet no department heads will take our questions.
Sources tell us all eight of these city government employees resigned before they could be fired.
“I think the surprise is that so many, the number,” said resident Lloyd Neal.
A city spokesperson said they can’t comment on personnel matters.
“Are we able to know how many people with each department, whether it’s police or fire, have resigned so far?” asked WREG’s Bridget Chapman.
“No, ma’am,” said the spokesperson.
The Olive Branch police chief also told us over the phone he’s not at liberty to discuss personnel issues and then hung up mid-conversation.
“I think as a taxpayer, we should know what’s going on,” said Lynne Jordan, a business owner in Olive Branch. “We should, you know, be notified.”
Community members have concerns with the government being tight lipped.
“Since they’re public servants, I think they should let us know, us citizens know, what the charges were,” said Neal.
Some residents say they’re confident public safety operations will still run smoothly.
“There are people ready to fill those slots,” said Neal. “I don’t think it’s going to hurt the city at all.”
We’re unaware of any criminal charges being filed in this investigation at this point. We’re going to stay on top of it to get you more answers.
