SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis’s case will go before the Mississippi Court of Appeals on July 21 in Jackson.
WREG spoke with Davis briefly over the phone Monday, who said he was excited his legal team will be able to present oral arguments later this month.
That is something he said his lawyers fought for.
Davis wanted the court to throw out an order that he pay $73,000 to the City of Southaven for misusing public funds.
WREG has shown you Davis’s credit card statements before which included lavish meals, personal trips and buying something at a sex shop in Canada.
“If he really owes the money, then he needs to pay it back,” said Southaven taxpayer Daphne Tuggle.
Last year, a Hinds County Chancery Judge ordered Davis to pay the city back.
According to reports, Davis has repaid $96,000.
The appeal Davis’s attorney filed said Davis should not be personally liable for the remaining money.
It said Aldermen approved reimbursement.
Former Alderman Ronnie Hale told WREG he believed this has dragged on far too long.
The drama began in 2011.
Voters kicked Davis and almost all the Aldermen out of office.
“We should go ahead and take care of what needs to be taken care of,” Hale said.
Others said they think Davis is due his day in court, even if it is years later.
“Sometimes, justice ain’t justice,” one resident said.
WREG phoned Davis’s attorney Monday but did not hear back.
