MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former U.S. Marine Corps reservist has been indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing and selling assault-style training rifles, ammunition, and body armor.
The indictment also alleges 21-year-old Armando Jaime Vazquez, Jr. used two government vehicles ‘in an unauthorized manner.’
Prosecutors also say he took, ‘an $89,000 Military-issued Hummer and $150,000 Tractor, Rubber Tired, Articulated Steering, Multipurpose Vehicle (also known as a “TRAM”) from the USMC Reserve Center in Memphis, according to the indictment.’
Vazquez, Jr. allegedly sold more than $24,000 worth of military owned items.
Among the items listed are body armor, ammunition magazines, a Bushmaster Blue Fire M9 and Bushmaster Blue Fire M-16 A4.
Vasquez faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison if convicted. He also faces up to a $250,000 fine.
