Four arrested for Oxford car burglaries

OXFORD, Miss. — Oxford Police said teens were the ones who broke into cars throughout the city in June.

We’re told a lot of those breakins happened in the 1700 block of Anderson.

“I just think it’s immature. They should just mind their own business. They have no business over here,” said Deundre Hearvuy who lived at Anderson Estates.

Neighbors said they were furious after learning about the car burglaries.

Teresa Whitehead, the manager at Anderson Estates, said one of her tenants reported the crime to her.

“It’s devastating because I want my tenants to feel safe,” she said.

Surveillance video helped catch 18- year-olds Kyree White, Robert Ivy and Kenzie Phillips as well as another teen under 18.

WREG was told White and Phillips are Oxford High School football players and played in the state championship last season.

“I was real disturbed to hear about the football players because that’s just not what Oxford School District represents,” said Whitehead.

Whitehead’s children attend Oxford High.

She blamed the crime in her city on lack of activities for young people.

“There’s just not enough to keep the youth busy in the summer. They’re just left at home; parents are at work,” she said.

The teens were charged with seven counts of auto burglary.
