MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Four people were shot and killed in Memphis between Friday and Saturday nights.
A man was fatally shot in a robbery in the 2300 block of Staten around 11 p.m. Friday.
A man and woman were gunned down in the 4700 block of Haven Court around 3:40 a.m. Saturday.
Then, Memphis Police responded to another shooting death around 9 p.m. Saturday. This investigation was on Prescott. Police believe someone shot the victim in a robbery.
“When I came home, the police, they were all everywhere and everything,” said North Memphis resident Samuel Wells.
His home is outfitted with security lights and a camera. He said he came home Friday night to a murder scene near a possibly abandoned home on Staten.
MPD said the victim was walking with two other men around 11 p.m. That was when four men came up and robbed them.
When the victim tried to get away, one of the suspects opened fire.
“Enough is enough right now,” said City Council Member Berlin Boyd.
That shooting happened in Boyd’s district.
He said it is promising to see a national search for a new Memphis Police director, and Mayor Jim Strickland is pledging to partner with the state to crack down on gangs.
“I created a program called “Not in My Neighborhood.” We’re actually forming an ad hoc committee coming up very shortly, which will actually help the individuals and communities to fight crime but remain anonymous,” Boyd said.
This weekend showed 2016 is off to a scary start, and many in Memphis are ready for change.
“Yeah, lots of people walking around, just looking for trouble,” Wells said.
So far, MPD has not reported any arrests in these cases.
