MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three former FedEx employees and two-conspirators have been indicted after they stole thousands of dollars in merchandise while working at the FedEx hub.
According to court documents, between January of 2013 and December 2014 Supervisor Tavaris Mickens conspired with Akeem Gowdy and Christopher Crawford to re-label and over-label packages containing cell phones.
The documents stated Crawford created a fraudulent FedEx corporate shipping meter account, and then, when they needed it, would print off a label with one of his co-conspirators listed as the package’s recipient.
Jordan West and Juan Royal were just two of the people who received those packages in New York.
In all, the group reportedly stole $1.7 million from Verizon Wireless and AT&T Wireless, and sent more than $10,000 in packages through FedEx.
Each of them were charged with conspiracy and interstate shipping theft.
West was also charged with mail fraud.
In addition, Crawford was charged with mail fraud and wire fraud.
FedEx released the following statement:
“Our cooperation with law enforcement led to the indictment against the three former employees. It sends a strong message that FedEx will not tolerate criminal activity in its network. The employment of the indicted individuals with FedEx has been discontinued.”
