Freezing rain advisory issued for parts of the Mid-South

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Light freezing rain is expected for western portions of the mid-south.

The National Weather Service is expecting the storm to spread into portions of the mid-south Sunday morning..

Western portions of mid-south include Arkansas, and Mississippi.

Cities under affect include Wynne, West Memphis, Marion, Forrest City, Marianne, West Helena, and Helena in Arkansas,. North Tunica, Tunica, and Clarksdale, in Mississippi.

The Shelby County Office of Preparedness tells us that emergency service coordinators are prepared if freezing rain moves  into the area tomorrow morning.

Director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness Dale Lane says, “We’re staying in close contact with the National Weather Service and will be ready to respond should conditions warrant.”

Shelby County Public Works Director Tom Needham says, “Road crews are prepared should driving become hazardous. Our trucks are ready to spread a mixture of salt and sand. Citizens need to also check on relatives and friends, especially those who are elderly, disabled or live alone. Pets should also be sheltered.”
