BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — “Obviously we can’t bring that person back here.”
Carl Barfield is talking about 19-year-old Adeline King, who was killed Saturday night after a massive shooting on Anderson Street in Blytheville.
“I was kind of hurt on the inside and kind of mad,” he said.
Barfield said all he could do was pray when he found out a dozen people, including two juveniles, were shot on the block.
“This is someone’s child, this is someone’s baby, and it could be you next,” he said.
WREG talked to aunts, cousins and nephews who all said their loved ones were injured during the shooting. Most of the victims have since been released from the hospital, but one teenager is still being treated.
Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson said the shooting was a result of a “confrontation or an ongoing feud” between two people.
One of those people was King — or Lil Addie, as she’s known by family and friends. Her death was too fresh for hurt family members to go on camera, and many in the neighborhood were too scared to talk about what happened.
Police said more than 200 people broke out into a massive brawl at Greater River Medical Center after the shooting.
“Yeah. They say they messed that hospital up pretty bad,” one man said.
Extra patrols were called in to investigate. Law enforcement and prosecutors are looking for answers, as whoever did this is still out there on the streets.
