Friends react after pizza delivery driver shot, killed in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — “I think shocked is not the right word. Devastated is more like it, and I’m thinking is this a dream? It all seems like a bad dream.”

Gina Mangum awoke this morning to the news that her longtime friend Mia Jones crashed into a guardrail at Ketchum and Airways Boulevard. The Toyota Corolla she driving was riddled with bullets and she was dead inside.

She was just doing her job.

According to police, Jones just finished up delivering a Domino’s pizza on Joy Lane.

For Mangum, the motive isn’t clear. She said Jones didn’t deserve to die.

“She was funny, she was caring — give the shirt off of her back. If you needed anything she did what she could to help you,” she told WREG.

Jones had three children and was looking forward to a birthday.

“I don’t think they realize what they’ve done, the amount of people they’ve hurt, people who genuinely cared for her and loved her.”

Mangum’s only plea: She wants the killers to turn themselves in.

“Hopefully they’ll have a twinge in their conscience that will allow them to do the right thing.”
