(Memphis)  Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove will hold a town hall meeting Monday night to discuss MLGW’s Smart Meters program.

The utility is currently lobbying the council for $10 million to add 60,000 meters to thousands of homes in the Memphis metro area.

MLGW says those meters automatically send data back to their headquarters — eliminating the need for monthly meter readings.

Fullilove and the city’s unions are against the meters — claiming they led to inaccuracies on utility bills. They also claim that some of the meters have started fires.

The town hall meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall in the City Council Chambers.
