(Memphis) Memphis City councilwoman Janis Fullilove and her husband Vernon Chalmers both faced a judge Wednesday.

The two were arrested after a fight early Tuesday morning and each charged with misdemeanor Domestic Assault.

In court Wednesday, they were called to the stand separately.

Fullilove had an attorney, Chalmers did not.

The judge told each the conditions of their bond, including the fact that they can not contact each other.

“I think at the end of this, you all will see who the real victim is. As the case progresses, hopefully you will see that the story is quite different from what’s been reported in the news and what’s been told to the police,” said Fullilove’s attorney Arthur Horne.

Fullilove and Chalmers attempted to avoid each other outside of court for the most part.

However, the two did collide and Chalmers tried to speak to his wife but she did not respond.

They each face up to 11 months and 29 days in jail if convicted.
