Germantown couple serve those who serve us

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. –Germantown police cruisers raced over to Paddock Cove Friday night, but the officers weren’t there for what you might think.

They were there for the steak, potatoes and all the fixings served up  by Bob and Joanna Young.

Every Friday night they grill out and have been for years since Bob was in the marines.

“We didn’t have a lot of funds so when it became pay day the best thing to do was grab a couple steaks, potatoes and a six pack of beer,” he said.

Now they’ve decided to add  Germantown police to the tradition to come by for dinner just to say thanks.

“We’ve gotten to know them on a personal level. We pray for them. Know when stuffs going on in their lives,” Joanna said.

For officers who spend several hours in a squad car, a free home cooked meal was gold.

“They’ll try to straggle through as they can in between calls, and sometimes they take it and run with it because they have to keep going doing what they do,” said one police officer.

“With a a lot of stuff you see in the U.S. in the news with the riots in the other cities and police, it’s really a great thing not to have to deal with that here,” said another.

“Really it was just going to be our district .Now it’s going to be city wide before its all over,” laughed Joanna.
