GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — City officials in Germantown announced it’s increased the man power in order to take the growing number of calls reporting trash pickup problems over the past couple of days.

The city is currently serviced by Inland Waste Solutions, but their track record hasn’t always been the best.

In March alone more than 1,300 residents called the city saying their trash had not been picked up according to schedule.

That same month leaders decided enough was enough and signed a $3.9 million contract with Waste Pro of Tennessee.

The new contract takes effect July 1, but until then the complaints keep rolling in.

Last week alone, the city received 550 reports of missed pickup from customers.

“We take customer service very seriously here in Germantown. We have heard from our customers and have taken action to remedy the problems with sanitation collection,” said Mayor Mike Palazzolo.

To remedy the problem, the city has increased the number of staff members taking calls and has even contracted with back-up contractors to collect the missed trash.

“We will continue to hold Inland responsible for performance under the terms of the contract,” said City Administrator Patrick Lawton. “However, at the end of the day, I know that our residents simply want their trash picked up; and that is what we are working hard to ensure,” he added.

To report a problem, call (901) 757-7263.
