Gibson’s Donuts robbed overnight

MEMPHIS, Tenn — Memphis landmark Gibson’s Donuts was robbed overnight.

Owner Don DeWeese says three men came in with guns around 1:30 a.m. Friday, grabbed some money and a safe, and ran. No one was hurt.

If police catch those robbers, Gibson’s owners plan to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

DeWeese wouldn’t say how much money was taken, only that nothing like this had happened in about 15 years.

“It makes me feel sick,” he said. “I’m not worried about the money. I’m just worried about what my employees had to feel.”

The store on Mount Moriah near Poplar in East Memphis was still open for business Friday morning. It’s open 24 hours and DeWeese says he has no plans to change that.

Surveillance cameras captured the suspects entering Gibson’s Donuts on Friday.
