MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two women entered the Ridgeway High School cafeteria Thursday morning, attacked a female student, then drove away, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
A student told WREG she was waiting for class to start when two strangers walked up to her, asked her name and then started hitting her.
“We started fighting out of no where. She had her arms wrapped around me at first, and I pushed her back,” the student said.
The student said it lasted for about a minute. She fell to the ground.
“They started hitting me again, and then they ran out the door,” she said.
Shelby County Deputies told us they don’t know who the women are, just that they drove a dark-colored car and entered through the school’s door.
“Since everything has been happening in Florida, it’s scary that a stranger can get in school,” said a classmate.
Students told WREG the side door is always unlocked, and it’s one of the two doors they use to enter and leave the building.
Parents we spoke to say if that’s the case, it needs to be guarded.
“That’s dangerous. That’s really, really dangerous,” said grandparent Linda Jennings.
“I’m concerned, because I’ve got two sons who go here. It concerns me if someone did something to anybody’s child,” said Monica Lambert.
Deputies say it doesn’t appear the women attend the school.
The student does not appear to have any serious injuries. Her father said she would be taken to a doctor.
Shelby County School officials told us the incident was caught on their security cameras, and they’ve turned the footage over to deputies.
They also said Ridgeway staff is reviewing safety procedures for morning arrival to prevent this from happening in the future.
