‘Grinch’ steals Christmas from two North Memphis families

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two different families in North Memphis are dealing with a stolen Christmas, everything from the presents to the tree.

Police have not made any arrests, and it’s unclear if the cases are connected.

The first happened this weekend on Decatur.

A mother said she saved up for a Christmas tree for her 11-year-old son. She had it just two days.

“We came back Saturday between like 1-2. Everything was gone,” she said keeping her identity hidden, because the suspect is on the loose. “I’m devastated.”

She said someone broke through the back door, ransacked her apartment and got away with most of her family’s belongings

“Nobody saw nothing. Nobody heard nothing,” she said. “Christmas tree, clothes, TVs, games, everything gone.”

She said a real-life Grinch came into her home taking her Christmas decorations and stockings, snatching her son’s comforter from his bed and the hot plate she uses to cook dinner. Even tissue, towels and soap were carried away.

“They looked like they were coming back for the food, because the refrigerator was open,” she said.

A similar story a few miles away on Devoy.

A family was too scared to go on camera, but told WREG they were at a memorial service Monday night and came home to every room in shambles.

Their back door was pried open and TVs, clothing, toys, electronics, food and toiletries were swiped.

The worst part: the mother said all of the gifts she wrapped for her toddler are gone too.

Both families hope the Grinch’s small heart grows three sizes, and everything is returned.

If not, they said they will have to make do this Christmas.

“It’s gone. Nothing I can do about it,” she said.
