COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — If you think you are excited for game four, you need to think again. Will Furlong has got you beat. The 10-year-old visited with WREG at his home in Collierville before heading down to FedExForum for the Grizz’s match-up against the Golden State Warriors. The Grizz are currently leading the series. “Vince Carter,” Furlong said as he pointed to the sweatband he was wearing. Before the game, Will wore Vince Carter’s sweatband, Marc Gasol’s jersey, and a “Super Grizz” cape. “Go Grizz!” Furlong shouted. Furlong has gotten national media attention after forming a friendship with many of the Grizzlies’ top players. Will said his favorite player is Zach Randolph. “It started with that Z-Bo shirt in December of 2013,” Will’s father, Morgan said. At that time, Will made his way to the Grizzlies’ bench and pointed at Randolph’s practice shirt, which he was wearing. Cameras caught Randolph give the shirt off his own back to Will. Since then, other players have made a point of greeting Will with high-fives. Will goes to the Grizz games with his dad, who is a season ticket holder. Furlong recalled at one particular game, he looked up and saw Will had made his way to the court. Gasol was holding Will in his arms and talking to Randolph. “He doesn’t only come for the play-off games or the big market teams. He comes every game. He comes and always have that smile,” Gasol told WREG Monday. Will was very interested to know the WREG crew’s favorite Grizz players. He loved to talk about basketball. “They’re in a position now to be arguably the best team in the NBA, and if they win tonight, I mean, this is monumental,” Furlong said. He is sure Will will be there, rooting for them all the way.
