(Memphis) The Memphis Grizzlies have promoted assistant Dave Joerger to head coach for the team.
The team posted the news on its Instagram site.
It has been long speculated that Joerger would be the replacement for former coach Lionel Hollins.
Joerger has been with the team for the past six seasons, including serving as Hollins’ lead assistant for the past two seasons.
At one point, Joerger was responsible for the Grizzlies’ defense, which the Grizzlies are known for.
Hence the famous phrase: “Grit and Grind!”
Before arriving to Memphis, Joerger coached in the International Basketball Association, the Continental Basketball Association and the D-League. He won a combined five titles in those leagues.
